Greek vessel honored with special recognition for rescuing ops
A vessel of the Greek shipping firm Latsco Marine Management has been honored with a special recognition from the IMO.
Particularly, the Master and Crew of M/V HELLAS REVENGER have received special recognition from the IMO. Hence, honoring their involvement in the search and rescue of over 200 people. Specifically, from a fishing boat in distress in the Ionian Sea in November 2021.
The company proudly calls everyone to congratulate their people for their bravery, compassion, and professionalism, upholding the highest traditions of the sea.
But what is the Special recognition?
Special Recognition
This form of recognition, established in 2015, at the twenty-ninth session of the Assembly, following the adoption of resolution A.1093(29). It is a commendation of the IMO Assembly, in the form of a certificate, for the bravery, professionalism, and compassion displayed by crews of merchant vessels in the rescue of migrants around the world.
In this regard, IMO recognized the perils of the sea and that any rescue necessarily entails danger. Eventually, not only to those being rescued but to the rescuers themselves. In particular, those involving multiple survivors.
Moreover, noting with great admiration the extraordinary efforts, great skill, courage, professionalism, and selfless concern for others demonstrated by the crews of all merchant vessels involved in the rescue operation of migrants at sea.
Therefore, IMO commends all merchant vessels and their crew participating in the rescue of mixed migrants at sea for their bravery, professionalism, and compassion embodying the highest traditions of the sea. Hence, awards special certificates to the vessels and crew. Nonetheless, requests Member Governments to provide information on the ones deserving such commendation.
