Hellenic Cables completes Offshore Wind cable supply

Hellenic Cables completes manufacturing and loading for shipment of inter-array cables for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW).

Hellenic Cables, a branch of Cenergy Holdings, announces the successful completion of cable manufacturing and loading for shipment. Thus, executing the contract with Dominion Energy to supply inter-array cables for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) commercial project.

Concept

Particularly, the purpose of this project is to provide approximately 2.6 GW of clean, reliable offshore wind energy. Therefore, increasing the amount and availability of renewable energy to Virginia customers. Hence, offering substantial economic and environmental benefits to the Hampton Roads region. This project represents a viable and needed opportunity for Virginia to obtain clean renewable energy and realize its economic and environmental goals.

Contribution

The company designed, supplied, and stored approximately 50 km of 66 kV, XLPE insulated submarine inter-array cables. Hence, connecting the wind turbines to the offshore substation.

Note that, Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) is a form of insulation that is created through both heat and high pressure. A cable with XLPE insulation is able to carry large currents and high voltages.

The cables have been manufactured in Hellenic Cables’ state-of-the-art submarine cable production facility in Corinth, Greece, over an extended period.
